Welcome to my web site!
I'd like to help YOU to have a more successful practice and a more satisfying career.
Since being admitted as a legal practitioner in 1981, I've worked in all kinds of law firms of all sizes, across a variety of practice areas. I've seen a lot of law and witnessed lots of change in the profession, and would like to use my experience to help you "do yourself justice" in your career and business.
Here are some of the things I've experienced in my career:
- Landing my first job as a qualified lawyer at age 22, during a Recession, and (like many people who consult me today) entirely through my own efforts, without any family connections to help me.
- Being "thrown in the deep end" with very little guidance.
- Learning by trial and error - literally! Lots of trials and lots of errors. Terrifying! This fuelled my desire to help others get a better start in their careers.
- Becoming the first-ever female partner in a 150-year-old law firm.
- Whacking my head against a glass ceiling, recovering from the resultant head injury, and reinventing my career several times in a bid to find my true path and purpose in life. Maybe I can help you find yours, too.
Isn't it wonderful that we're not all the same? Everyone has something special and different to offer. People need to recognize the qualities that they uniquely have, and learn how best to use them. Firms need to know how best to use the special skills of their individual staff members.
Some other bits of information about me:
- I have a Marketing degree (majoring in Business Strategy), so I can help you to market yourself or your firm.
- I've consulted to four Law Schools in the development of their practical legal education programs, so if you'd like some help with your in-house professional development program, give me a call.
- I'm a Mentor with Thought Leaders Ltd and offer a program to help lawyers raise their profile by positioning themselves as experts in their chosen field of practice.
- I served for four years as a Director of the Australian Legal Practice Management Association (ALPMA) and was the founding Chair of the SA Chapter.
- I know lots of interesting people, so there is a good chance I can help you with all kinds of inquiries - try me!
Here's the book I wrote while I was working as a lecturer with the Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice course at University of South Australia. It took a long time to write. And there are pictures in it - how good is that? It's got a boring cover but it's a great read and worth the money! Click on the link below to purchase it from the publisher.

"This book is unique in the guidance it offers as to the drafting of pleadings...I was impressed by Ms Dunstone's innovative approach...it deserves to be read by students and practitioners alike." - from the Foreword by the (now late) Justice Perry of the Supreme Court of South Australia.
"It is the best text on drafting pleadings that I have found." - Nandi Segbedzi, Barrister, Melbourne
